Claude Code vs Cursor: which workflow fits your team?

Compare Claude Code and Cursor on real development tasks: interface, cloud execution, approvals and review effort.

WERKVERSTAND / CONNECTING INTELLIGENCE

The essential answer

Claude Code and Cursor can both work as software agents. Selection depends more on development workflow and control needs than on a simple terminal-versus-autocomplete distinction.

    02 / LIMITS

    Not the first choice when

    • Plans, model choice and cloud permissions can differ by product mode.

    Compare the actual working surfaces

Claude Code can be extended through project files, skills, hooks and MCP. Alongside editor work, Cursor offers Cloud Agents that develop in their own virtual machine and return results for review. Name the actual modes being compared. A strong local experience does not imply identical cloud behavior.

Use three tasks instead of a favorite prompt

Use a small bug, a change across several files and a maintenance task with existing tests. Both systems receive the same starting state and acceptance criteria. Record human hints. This reveals whether an outcome was reached independently or only after extensive correction.

Include execution rights in the comparison

Cursor documents several run modes, while Claude Code has its own permission controls. For each mode, check allowed commands and network paths, secret placement and approval behavior. A deliberately prohibited access attempt in a test environment is more revealing than a reassuring agent response.

Compare the cost of a finished change

Compare usable results, developer and review time, and defect rate. A team may prefer local interaction for difficult architecture work while delegating bounded maintenance in parallel. Keep one review standard even if several tools prove useful. Werkverstand helps structure that comparison before a broad license rollout.
